Scholars speculate that he could have been a Cistercian monk before being appointed as the Bishop of Hamar. Walter de Muda, a monk at the abbey, composed a Latin poem in Thorfinn’s honor, praising his virtues of kindness, patience, and generosity.

Miracles were reported at his tomb, including healings and answered prayers, leading to a growing veneration of Saint Thorfinn, particularly among the Cistercians. Pilgrimages to his burial site became common, and his reputation as a holy bishop spread throughout the region. In modern times, his memory has been revived among the Catholic community in Norway, where his feast day is celebrated with reverence.
