The king gave James an ultimatum: renounce Christ once more or face death. James refused, declaring his loyalty to Christ and his belief in the promise of eternal life.

Enraged, Bahram ordered a gruesome punishment. James was condemned to be dismembered piece by piece, starting with his fingers. Over the course of the torture, James remained resolute, offering each piece of his body to God as a sacrifice. Witnesses to his martyrdom reported that his unwavering faith and calm demeanor inspired awe and even conversions among onlookers.
